Opening Details
DJI and its Japanese distributor, Sekido Co., Ltd., are set to open their first dual-concept flagship store in Tokyo on October 31.
Store Features
The DJI | Hasselblad Authorized Concept Store will span two floors. The first floor will feature DJI products, including drones, handheld gimbals, and action cameras. A notable addition is an indoor "Drone Flight Cage," allowing customers to test drones before making a purchase. The second floor will be dedicated to Hasselblad, showcasing medium-format mirrorless cameras and XCD lenses, alongside a touch-and-try area and a Hasselblad art gallery.
Customer Engagement
The store aims to provide a hands-on experience for customers, a response to growing demand for direct interaction with products. Sekido Co. Ltd. noted that the use of DJI products has rapidly expanded in Japan, highlighting the importance of customer service in Japanese, Chinese, and English to cater to a diverse clientele.
Hasselblad's Market Presence
Hasselblad's recent success in Japan is largely attributed to the launch of its 100-megapixel medium-format camera, the X2D II 100C. This model has seen unprecedented sales, even selling out at major retailers, which is uncommon for premium cameras priced over a million yen (approximately $7,000). The brand, now owned by DJI, is working to solidify its presence in a market known for its photography enthusiasts.
DJI's Dominance in Japan
DJI maintains a commanding market share in Japan's video camera segment, reportedly exceeding 70% earlier this year. This flagship store is part of DJI's strategy to further strengthen its position in the Japanese market, which has shown a growing interest in aerial photography and video production.
Grand Opening Events
The grand opening will feature a special ceremony, including a Hasselblad photography event and giveaways of limited-edition items. Notable giveaways include Hasselblad cleaning cloths, stickers, and unique mascot cat keychains.
Implications for Consumers
The opening of this flagship store is expected to enhance the purchasing experience for both DJI and Hasselblad customers in Japan. With the ability to engage with products directly and receive expert advice, consumers can make more informed decisions about their photography and videography needs.
