New Addition to the Simera-C Lineup

Thypoch has officially launched the Simera-C 100mm T1.9 lens, marking the completion of its full-frame cine prime series. This new lens expands the lineup, which previously included focal lengths from 16mm to 75mm, now providing cinematographers with a longer telephoto option.

Lens Specifications

The Simera-C 100mm T1.9 lens is available in both Sony E and Leica M mounts. It features a maximum aperture of T1.9, consistent with the 16mm lens in the series, while the five other primes offer a maximum aperture of T1.5. The 100mm has a focus rotation of 210 degrees and 0.8MOD gearing on its focus and aperture rings. The front diameter measures 72mm, and it accepts M67*0.75 filters.

Optical Design

The optical formula of the 100mm lens consists of 11 elements arranged in 8 groups, providing a horizontal field of view of 21.4 degrees on full-frame cameras. The lens includes a 16-blade iris, which contributes to its ability to produce soft, natural bokeh. The minimum focusing distance is 0.85 meters (approximately 2 feet, 10 inches), allowing for close-up shots.

Coating and Image Quality

Thypoch employs an advanced vacuum coating and multi-layer, anti-reflective coating process for the Simera-C series, aimed at minimizing reflections and reducing flare and ghosting. The company claims that this lens is suitable for high-resolution video cameras, including those capable of 8K recording, enhancing dynamic range and color accuracy.

Size and Weight

The 100mm lens measures 86.4mm in length and weighs 477 grams in the Sony E mount version. In the Leica M mount, it is 76.6mm long and weighs 451 grams. This relatively light weight is designed to appeal to professionals who require mobility without sacrificing optical performance.

Pricing and Availability

The Thypoch Simera-C 100mm T1.9 lens is set to begin shipping in late October. The pricing is positioned competitively within the cine lens market, with the Sony E mount version retailing for $879 USD and the Leica M mount version priced at $959 USD. This pricing strategy positions Thypoch as an affordable option in a market where cinema lenses can often exceed $10,000.

Included Accessories

Each lens purchase includes front and rear caps, a shim pack for back-focus adjustment, a mount tool kit, and a warranty card. Additionally, Thypoch offers a complete Simera-C T1.5/T1.9 Cine 7-Lens Kit for $4,799 USD, providing a comprehensive solution for filmmakers looking to build a robust lens collection.

Conclusion

With the introduction of the Simera-C 100mm T1.9 lens, Thypoch completes its cine prime series, offering cinematographers a versatile and budget-friendly option for full-frame filmmaking. The lens's specifications, combined with its competitive pricing, make it a notable addition to the market.
