Fortem Technologies Secures $50 Million for Counter-Drone Tech
Fortem Technologies has raised $50 million in funding led by Lockheed Martin to enhance its counter-drone systems amid increasing demand.

Funding Overview
Fortem Technologies, a company based in Lindon, Utah, has successfully closed a $50 million Series B funding round aimed at bolstering its counter-drone technology. The funding round was led by Lockheed Martin, which contributed $25 million to the initial tranche announced earlier this year. Other investors included Unusual Machines and various strategic and institutional backers.
Purpose of the Funding
The new capital will primarily be utilized to accelerate manufacturing processes at Fortem's Utah facility and to expand the deployment of its SkyDome Family of Systems. This platform integrates advanced technologies such as TrueView radar sensors, AI-driven command-and-control software, and autonomous DroneHunter interceptors, all designed to detect, track, classify, and neutralize aerial threats.
Market Demand
The funding comes at a time when the demand for counter-drone systems is surging, driven by increasing concerns over unauthorized and hostile drones in both civilian and military airspace. Fortem has already secured multiple significant contracts, indicating a robust market for counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) technology.
Major Contracts Secured
Recently, Fortem Technologies was awarded a multimillion-dollar contract from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to provide security solutions for venues during the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup. Additionally, the company has a contract with the US Army focused on defending military installations worldwide. Fortem is also integrating its technology with Lockheed Martin's Sanctum counter-UAS architecture, further solidifying its market position.
Strategic Importance
In August, Fortem became the only small business chosen as a prime contractor for a five-year DHS counter-UAS hardware and software contract, which has an estimated initial ceiling of $1.011 billion, with potential for further growth. This highlights Fortem's strategic importance in the counter-drone sector and its capability to deliver solutions that meet urgent security needs.
Industry Perspective
Charlie O'Connell, Fortem's chief business officer, emphasized the urgency of the threat landscape, stating, "The threat is real, demand is here, and our technology is proven in real-world environments." This sentiment is echoed by Stephanie C. Hill, president of Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems, who noted that customers require counter-UAS systems that can be deployed quickly, scaled effectively, and adapted to evolving threats.
Future Outlook
With the infusion of $50 million, Fortem Technologies is well-positioned to transition from experimental phases to large-scale deployment of its counter-drone systems. As the landscape for aerial threats continues to evolve, the company aims to enhance its production capabilities and meet the growing demand for effective counter-drone solutions.
